Toikura Taka, also known as Toi, and who adopted the stage name stuffwithtoi, is a Polynesian Creative Artist who has indulged in Performing Arts since a young age and continues to discover and learn more about her craft in Music and Dance. Toi envisions herself as a business owner within the creative/performing arts industry, hoping to be of good influence and inspiration for future generations.
Biography
Toikura Taka is a versatile creative artist with significant skills and abilities in Music and Dance. However, Toi is always willing to explore new ideas and grow her skill set in any relevant way. She has recently started releasing original music ranging from R&B, Pop, and Gospel with elements of Soul and Neo Soul while continually developing skills privately as a vocalist, singer-songwriter, lyricist, and instrumentalist. With her life experience of singing and vocal training, Toi has gained an authentic, soothing Pop, R&B, and Gospel tone and style of singing and practices with different styles often. From private tutored training at her younger age to her training at Excel School of Performing Arts in 2019. Toi has excelled in her vocal range and has specifically increased her breath control and vocal performance skills.
In all her time as a dancer and creative, Toikura Taka has grown in and performed Hip Hop and Contemporary choreography in numerous showcases, church and youth environments and community events. During her time at Excel, Toi has previously committed to learning new styles, including Jazz, Isolation/Animation, and Tap, which has enabled her to be more knowledgeable about various dance styles — her preferred styles range between Hip Hop and Contemporary. Toi, from then, has continued to expand her knowledge in dance and is progressing in her third year of study for a bachelor's degree at The University of Auckland, increasing her dance knowledge and practice in contemporary dance technique. She has recently joined her first dance crew based in South Auckland, Aotearoa, this year, 2023, Nappyboyz. Since starting in Nappyboyz, Toi has grown in dance performance and has learnt more about styles, including Vogue, Krump, Afro and Dancehall. As a teacher, dancing has led Toi to assist in choreographic collaboration and volunteer Dance tutoring in Church Ministries.
Toi says, "Creative arts is my form of expression, not only because I want to, but because I need to. It has become a necessity for me and a shoulder to cry on". She puts everything into her work and growth as she interplay's her character and personality within her music, choreographic and dance work. Her intention as a performer and creative is to tell a story, bring and explore new perspectives, and make her audience think.
